The Sanctuary currently has 17 horses.   Our rescue unofficially started 20 years ago with a gelding named Boomer.    He was on his way to the slaughter house and ended up at a barn I worked at.   He was dangerous and had no flight in him, he was all fight!   And if he didn't want to do something, he did not do it.   He was magnificent!!   To me anyways.    Boomer was the one that started it all.   And why to this day, I prefer to take in the ones who are deemed "unadoptable" or difficult.    I love the challenge and the change that can happen when they are finally understood.   The bond is amazing and unbreakable!    Boomer died unexpectedly quite a few years ago to colic.   He is missed every single day.

There are currently several horses that have come here with that same attitude, and we are proud to say, not one of them has shown any aggression or dangerous behavior.     Some of those will remain at The Sanctuary for the remainder of their lives.    Some however, are available in our Foster/Adopt program!     We are looking for "Forever Fosters" who are horse savvy and enjoy working with and restarting them.    The program works like an off site free lease.      There are no adoption fees.   The first step is to fill out an application so we can get a better idea of which horse might be best suited for your experience level.   We have horses that are trained and rideable to horses that are pretty much feral and need to be completely restarted.   Then we have you meet the horse, we do a home visit and if all looks good, the horse is delivered to you or can be picked up.

If you're interested in fostering, a completed application, home visit and contract are required, and the horse remains the property of The Sanctuary, but the foster is able to train, ride and show like they were their own.    We do not allow racing, breeding or gaming with any of our rescues/foster horses.    The foster is responsible for daily care, including feeding and farrier/trimming.    Most expenses can be considered a tax deductible donation to the rescue.

If for any reason while the horse is in your care, you feel it is not working or your circumstances change, then the horse comes back into our rescue program.    No selling, trading or giving away of any foster horses is allowed.    These horses have been through enough in their lives, and everything we do is for their safety and happiness.

Several horses are available for adoption as well.    There is an adoption fee, which will vary depending on the horse and amount of money invested.   A completed application, home/barn visit and contract are required and the horses cannot be sold or given away unless to an approved home.   Or they can always come back to the rescue.

Please consider opening your heart and home to one of deserving rescues!
